WHAT IS A PEDIATRIC DENTIST?
Pediatric dentists complete an additional two to three years of specialized training after completing dental school. This extra training is dedicated to oral growth and development of infants, children, and teens, as well as behavior management. Dr. Witte’s pediatric dental office is designed with children in mind. Along with video games, TV’s, bright colors, and our awesome train, our patients are rewarded with prizes and stickers at each dental visit.
HOW ARE APPOINTMENTS SCHEDULED?
Our office attempts to schedule appointments at convenient times for you and when time is available. We prefer to schedule preschool children during morning hours when they are not approaching nap time. School children who are in need of restorative dental treatment are normally scheduled in the morning or early afternoon. Dental appointments are an excused absence and we are happy to provide a school excuse for the appointment time. Missing school can be kept to a minimum when regular dental care is continued. Routine dental check-ups and monthly appointments for dental appliances are scheduled during normal office hours.
YOUR CHILD’S FIRST VISIT
For children up to age three and a half, Dr. Witte will examine his/her teeth, gums, and bite and perform a consultation with the parent present. If decay is noted, another appointment will be scheduled based on Dr. Witte’s recommendation.
For children age four and older, we schedule time for cleaning, fluoride treatment, and routine radiographs. Dr. Witte recommends that children have dental check-ups every six months. If additional treatment is needed, Dr. Witte and/or our office staff will visit with you to discuss your child’s necessary treatment and schedule an appointment.
